April 29, 2025 - At Studio32 and Cebu Jiu Jitsu, we highly encourage every student to step onto the competition mats—not to prove anything to others, but to prove something powerful to yourself: You can do it.
Competition is often seen as a test, but not of ego, medals, or bragging rights. It’s a personal journey—a way to awaken the sleeping warrior inside each of us.
About 90% of our team had no athletic background when they first joined. Many were unsure, nervous, and questioned if they even belonged in a sport as demanding as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. But the truth is: the potential was always there. Competition simply gave them the push to discover it.
While you step on the mat alone, Jiu Jitsu is deeply a team sport. No one sharpens their skills without teammates. No one wins without the countless rolls, drills, and encouragement from the people around them.
When you compete, you carry not just your own hopes—you carry the strength of your team behind you.
Here in Cebu, we’re blessed with many avenues to compete locally. Whether you’re aiming for small, friendly tournaments or larger, high-level events, there’s always a stage ready for you to test your growth.
You don’t have to give up your entire life to compete. But you do need to set aside time to prepare—physically and mentally.
Adversity is what shapes us. It’s during the late nights of drilling, the sweaty rounds when you want to quit, and the small victories in training that you forge a better version of yourself—not just on the mats, but in life.
Competing isn’t about proving yourself to the team. It’s about proving to yourself that you have the heart, the discipline, and the resilience to face fear head-on.
When you step out there, win or lose, you wear a badge of honor—proof that you faced adversity with courage.
You are a warrior.
The mats humble you—and the mats make you great.
Thinking about competing? This is your sign.
Speak to your coach, pick your event, and start your journey.
We’re with you every step of the way. OSS!
April 22, 2025 - Starting something new can be intimidating—especially for kids. At Studio32 and Cebu Jiu Jitsu, it’s not uncommon for first-time students to feel overwhelmed during their first few classes. And that’s okay. In fact, it’s expected.
We often hear from parents who worry that their child didn’t understand the techniques or felt unsure about what to do. What we want every parent to know is this: that feeling is part of the process, and with continued encouragement, kids quickly begin to adapt, grow, and thrive.
Our goal isn’t to make kids experts in Jiu Jitsu overnight. Instead, we focus on developing how they think, react, and move. Jiu Jitsu helps children learn how to stay calm under pressure, find solutions in real time, and understand the mechanics of their bodies—all while having fun in a supportive environment.
One of the biggest factors in a child’s longevity in the sport is parental support. Encouraging your child to stick with it—even when it feels tough—builds resilience and confidence that will carry far beyond the mats.
We’ve seen it time and again: students who were shy or hesitant at first now confidently lead the pack. Some of our current teen and adult champions started right here in our kids program, simply because they kept showing up.
So if your child feels overwhelmed, know that it’s part of their journey. Stay consistent. Keep showing up. And trust the process. You’ll be amazed at what they’re capable of.
